In the English town of Overton (near York) a collection of 37 silver Roman coins was found. Scientists finally recognized the find as a treasure.
The discovery took place in September 2016. The coins were accompanied by pottery fragments. Some of the coins date back to 69 CE, i.e. the reign of Emperor Vespasian. Scientists suspect that the coins were buried during the stay of Emperor Septimius Severus and his family in this place.
Finally, after a long process of evaluating the find, the Yorkshire Museum authorities decided to acquire the coins. At this point, the finder must put the find up for sale at a price set by the British Museum’s Treasure Valuation Committee.
