Members of the “Altair4 Multimedia” team digitally recreate the look of Ara Pacis – the “Altar of Peace” commissioned by the Senate on the occasion of its return Octavian Augustus to Rome, in the year 13 BCE.
Ara Pacis Augustae was dedicated to the Roman deity of peace – Pax (the equivalent of the Greek Eirene).
In the reconstruction, the “Altar of Peace” is located in the north-eastern corner of the Field of Mars (currently the building is hidden under the roof of Museo dell’Ara Pacis) . Beautiful decorations and carvings have been coloured, which allows us to see how beautiful the work of Ara Pacis was in Roman times.
