The source of knowledge about the life of the Romans are mainly works left to us by ancient writers or discoveries. The Romans left behind a lot of strange information and facts that are sometimes hard to believe.
An intriguing statue of the “sleeping Hermaphrodite” from the collections of the Roman museum Palazzo Massimo Alle Terme. It is a marble copy of an older work made in the middle of the 2nd century CE, found in the ruins of a Roman domus on the Quirinal, near the Teatro dell’Opera.

Mosaic depicting Bacchus; dated to the 3rd century CE. Object was found around via Flaminia in Rome. Currently in the Palazzo Massimo alle Terme museum.
In the picture the only preserved scutum – a Roman shield, used by Roman legionaries. It was found flattened, in thirteen pieces, without umbo. The paintings on the shield show: an eagle with a laurel wreath, winged Victoria and a lion.
