Reconstruction of the Sea Theater in Hadrian's villa

A wonderful reconstruction of the so-called Maritime Theater at Hadrian’s villa, made by Progetto Katatexilux.

The theater had the form of a circular portico, inside which was a pool surrounding the island with a diameter of 40 meters. In ancient times, the island was connected to the portico by two wooden drawbridges.

The theater had a hall, a library, heated baths, three rooms with heated floors, an art gallery and a large fountain. On the island there was a small Roman house with an atrium, library, triclinium and small baths. This area was probably used by the emperor as a stepping stone from a busy life outside.
