Reconstruction of Roman bakery in Pompeii | Reconstruction: Balage Balogh, Archaeollogy Illustrated
The reconstruction shows a Roman bakery in Pompeii. The authors of the illustrations in the middle of the graphic show a slave driving a mill (pistrium) for grinding grain. We know that, however, the power of animals was also used for grinding.
The inscription on the back: Hic habitat felicitas, can be translated as: “Here lives happiness”, while the phallus on the wall was a symbol of happiness, which was to ensure good business turnover.
