In eastern Serbia, the remains of a Roman mausoleum from the 3rd century CE were found. The discovery took place at an excavation site in Viminacium, east of Belgrade, near the town of Kostolac.

Archaeologists found a stone head of a young man, a carefully carved hand holding a sword and fragments of a weapon. In addition, the wings of the eagle, which was the symbol of Jupiter and the Roman Empire, were found.

According to scientists, the mausoleum probably belonged to one of the emperors, and the building was destroyed as a result of the damnatio memoriae, the policy of oblivion. It should be added that in Viminacium, more than 80 graves from the 2nd and 3rd century CE were also found.
