On the Libyan coast, in the area of the ancient port of Ptolemais, a Roman villa with numerous mosaics and coins was discovered.
The ancient villa had an area of about 600 square meters and dates back to the 3rd century CE. Beautiful mosaics show, among others, the sleeping Dionysus and Ariadne or the adventures of Achilles.
On the walls of the building, there are traces of the once colourful frescoes. In the area of the villa, 533 bronze coins and silver sesterces, probably hidden by the owners, were discovered. However, due to another earthquake (mid-third century CE and 365 CE), the building was destroyed and the treasure buried in ruins.
