The second triumphal arch of Emperor Titus was discovered in 2015 on the site of Circus Maximus, the oldest and largest circus of ancient Rome. Due to the lack of money for its full extraction, the monument will soon be buried under the ground and will wait for better times.
Archaeologists discovered several large marble fragments of a structure that was at least ten meters high. It was built in honour of Titus’ victory over the people of Judea and the destruction of the temple in Jerusalem.
After marching under the arch, Roman troops went straight to the temple of Jupiter on the Capitoline Hill. Another arch, commemorating the same victory of Titus, but built on the Forum Romanum, is in perfect condition to our times.
