Lucius Julius Caesar (grandson of Augustus)

Lucius Julius Caesar (Lucius Vipsanius, after adoption by Emperor Augustus Lucius Iulius Caesar) was born between June 14 and July 15, 17 BCE.
He was the son of Marcus Agrippa and Julia the Elder and a grandson of Emperor Augustus.
On the year of his birth, Lucius and his brother Gaius were adopted by Octavian Augustus. The brothers stayed at the court of Augustus, under the watchful eye of their grandfather. The boys were to grow up to be leaders of the state, and in the future, they might even take power after Augustus.
In 2 BCE he was recognized as an adult, appointed to the senate, and recognized as a youth leader (Princeps Iuventutis) just like his brother previously.
Unexpectedly, however, in 2 CE he died in Marseille on his way to Spain. Tacitus suggested that Livia herself was involved in the death of Augustus’ grandson, who wanted to get rid of Lucius and ease the way to the throne for her son Tiberius. He was buried in the Mausoleum of Augustus.
