Curiosities of ancient Rome

The world of ancient Romans abounded in a number of amazing curiosities and information. The source of knowledge about the life of the Romans are mainly works left to us by ancient writers or discoveries. The Romans left behind a lot of strange information and facts that are sometimes hard to believe.

How did Romans greet and say goodbye?

If you want to say hello in ancient Rome, it would be enough to say Salvē (in case of one recipient) or Salvēte, if we would welcome a larger group of people. Naturally, you could also use the word Avē. Avē and Salvē can simply be translated as “Hi”.

Roman doll made of ivory

Found in 1964, a Roman doll made of ivory with a gold necklace. The doll was discovered next to the body of mummified girl’s body. It is dated to II century CE. She was buried in Cossinii tomb in Tivoli.
