Discoveries and news in Rome

Two skeletons have been discovered in London’s Lant Street Cemetery in Southwark, possibly of Chinese origin. Interestingly, scientists date them to the period of the 2nd-4th century CE, which means that the Chinese still appeared in Roman Britain.

An amateur treasure hunter found a rare two-thousand-year-old Roman pendant. The discovery took place in a field in the village of Farndon, near Chester (England).

Israeli researchers discovered the positions of Roman siege machines used during the famous siege of Jerusalem in 70 CE.

A bronze drachma was discovered in Israel, which was probably minted by the Roman emperor Antoninus Pius (who ruled in the years 138-161 CE). The coin was minted in Alexandria.

Using traditional archeology with 3D technology, scientists at Lund University in Sweden recreated the original look of the house in Pompeii, before the explosion Vesuvius.

An unusual Roman pot containing oil lamps has been discovered in 2016 in the Roman fort of Vindonissa in Switzerland. The find is dated to the 1st century CE.

Archaeologists carrying out excavations at a Roman villa discovered in 1983 are at the final stage of discovering the entire structure. This exclusive Roman villa is located near Florence and has been described by scientists as “unique”.

Remains of a 2000-year-old Roman furnace were found in Scotland in 2016. Interestingly, according to scientists, it was probably not used.
